SUMMER PARKS AND RECREATION PROGRAM
SIGN UP YOUR KIDS FOR SUMMER FUN!!!

Summer Fun

The Summer Parks and Recreation Program began on July 6, 2010 and will run until August 26, 2010 from 8am until 3 pm. We serve breakfast and lunch through the Methuen Public Schools Lunch Program and have an average of 120 children in attendance every day. We play strategic games, basketball, have fun in the water fountain, on the swings, and with arts and crafts. We are fortunate enough to have hired 44 youth from the neighborhood to work at the parks and recreation program from 11-20 hours per week. We have our two staff, Joan and Carmen, funded by Essex County Community Foundation’s Summer In Greater Lawrence Grant for 2010, on site every day supervising the children and workers. We have hired staff through the Attorney General Martha Coakley's Project Y.E.S. Program, GLCAC, Inc., ARRA Funding, Valley Works Career Center and the Workforce Investment Board, and the City of Methuen Recreation Department.

SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Kiwanis
The Methuen Arlington Neighborhood, Inc. started their Summer Basketball League on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 5:00 pm. The league is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence and Methuen Police Department. The donation presented by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence will pay for the uniforms, trophies and the annual Basketball tournament to be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The league is for both boys and girls ages 7-18 that live in the Arlington Neighborhood of Methuen. Each team will play every Thursday and all participants receive a trophy at the tournament. Jeffrey Shank from the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence was on hand to present the check. Also on hand for the start of the league were Officer Gardner and Officer Macmenamon. Representing Methuen Arlington Neighborhood is Linda Soucy, Founder, and Carmen Rosario, Community Organizer, and the kids who will play on the basketball league. It will be a fun summer.
